About Us
Praising God is everything we do in response to God's steadfast love, amazing grace, and abundant life for all.
We believe faith is a gift from God. A seed planted and stirred to life by the Holy Spirit when we witness and encounter God's grace. We recognize it takes a lifetime to trust all the gifts of faith. The life of faith is not a solo sport, so we offer resources to nurture faith wherever you are in discovering this gift.
First Lutheran Church seeks to partner with organizations in the Sandpoint and surrounding communities to meet the needs of our neighbors. Luther Park of Sandpoint is a significant focus to serve the members of our Sandpoint community.
A Note of Welcome.
We are delighted to welcome you to First Lutheran, a vibrant community of believers dedicated to spreading the message of God’s grace in Jesus through word and deed. Our church has been a cornerstone of Sandpoint, Idaho, since its founding in 1908, and we are honored to continue serving as a beacon of gospel light and hope.

What Does It Mean to Be Lutheran?
Foremost, Lutherans believe that all people are imperfect and are saved, or made right with God, by God’s grace and God’s grace alone, through Christ.
Daniel Hughes
Music Director
First Lutheran Church pairs music with worship for powerful service experiences.
Daniel's musical talents seem to have no limit. He brings an inspiring mix of organ and piano to each church service. He is enthusiastic about the continuation and development of our choir, the creation of a praise band, and expanding opportunities for future concerts throughout the year.
Keep your eye out for announcements as they develop.
In his own words, Daniel has always believed, “Life is better lived in good company with good chocolate, outside, barefoot, and in the mountains; and that the whole of life and the art of living should be cross-informed by every endeavor and pursuit we undertake.”
Communicate directly with Daniel by email at danhughes@icloud.com.

120 years of existing as a church in Sandpoint is something to celebrate!
First Lutheran Church, established in 1905, is alive and well today–and we think that’s something to celebrate. If you are interested in First Lutheran Church’s history, take a look at the pictures and a timeline of the faith and family of First Lutheran Church.
Land Acknowledgment
God calls us to justice which stands on the foundation of truth. Therefore, we honor the true story of the land on which we worship. We acknowledge and honor the peoples of the Kalispel, Kootenai, Coeur d’Alene and Nez Perce tribes. Upon their ancestral homelands we gather for worship, as well as all our indigenous siblings who continue to care for this place, this land, and call it their home. May we join as one people in praise to our Creator.
“Faith is a living, bold trust in God’s grace, so certain of God’s favor that it would risk death a thousand times trusting in it. Such confidence and knowledge of God’s grace makes you happy, joyful, and bold in your relationship to God and all creatures.”
