Community

At First Lutheran, serving God has always meant reaching beyond the walls of our church to help fulfill the needs of God’s people. The following is a list (though not complete) of organizations with which First Lutheran has a strong relationship.

Luther Park

Luther Park was built by First Lutheran on a large, undeveloped piece of property adjacent to the church. Market research in 2007 revealed a huge need in the Sandpoint community for additional senior housing. We determined that diving into this project was exactly what God was leading us to do. Luther Park remains one of our largest commitments to the community and the seniors that call it home.  We are devoted to providing a safe, comfortable space for all.  Click the link below to find out more about Luther Park.

Sandpoint Teen Center

First Lutheran is thrilled to provide our fellowship hall and kitchen to the Sandpoint Teen Center every week, Monday through Friday, after school. They have many fundraising events throughout the year, including cooking and serving dinners and hosting a Christmas market.  The Teen Center also has its administrative office and holds its Board Meetings at FLC. Check out their website for more information.

Music Together

Music Together® offers early childhood music programs to nurture each child’s natural musicality in a playful, musically rich learning environment. Music classes for young children meet every Tuesday in the church nursery beginning at 9 am. The classes are designed for newborn to five-year-old children and their parents.

Emily Bond is the director of the first Sandpoint center for Music Together® and is your teacher and facilitator of each class.

Bonner Homeless Transitions

Bosom Buddies Quilters

Bosom Buddies is a nonprofit quilting group celebrating 25 years of making lap quilts for breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. They have also been making children’s quilts, Christmas stockings, and pillowcases for over 30 children of all ages for the Homeless Task Force in Sandpoint. We welcome anyone who wants to join.

Bonner Community
Food Bank

Food Bank

FLC has been collecting non-perishable food items & money to support the Bonner Food Bank for decades. On the last Sunday of every month, any non-perishable items are collected and delivered to the Bonner Food Bank.

Mobile Food Market

Twice a year, we host a mobile food market in the parking lot. It is a fun day filled with smiles, laughter, and gratitude. Fresh produce and other groceries are provided to all families in need of food assistance. It is open to the public and no appointment or documentation is needed.

Helping Hands Healing Hearts

FLC supports Helping Hands Healing Hearts with financial donations and prayer. Their mission is to provide compassionate support, creating a bridge from hardship to hope by meeting the material and spiritual needs of our community.

Samaritan's Purse

We Help Disaster Victims Around the World

Samaritan's Pouch stands ready to respond at a moment's notice when disaster strikes, whether at home or abroad. Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ. The organization serves the Church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Lutherhaven

Lutherhaven Ministries provides year-round Christian outdoor programs including camps, retreats and events, outdoor education as well as facility rentals. From scenic Lake Coeur d’Alene, to the western edge of the ruggedly famous Bitterroot Mountains, we have four locations where we offer life changing experiences for visitors of all ages. We are proud members of the Christian Camp & Conference Association.

Summer camper scholarships are also available to members and relatives of members. When enrolling for Lutherhaven Bible Camp, mark the section that says you qualify for a scholarship from First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint.  The amount that First Lutheran pays is $230.

FLC Giving Tree

Giving Tree

The Giving Tree is an annual collection of Christmas gifts for area children. Everyone at church can purchase a gift for as many people as they want to support. Supporting the community is a part of the entire year but at Christmas FLC is looking at the details and providing a specific need.

School Kits

Each year, FLC collects supplies for school kids for children around the world. Education is one of the strongest tools a community has for breaking the cycle of poverty. Ensuring that girls attend school, especially in places where their access is deprioritized, has even stronger results. Lutheran World Relief School Kits contain essential supplies to help children — and in some cases, adults — continue learning in the face of serious obstacles. That learning leads to a better life for them, their families and their communities.
