What is Lent?

Great video by Busted Halo.  It offers an overview of Lent from Ash Wednesday to Good Friday.  Interviews on the street and to the point teaching by Father Jack on fasting, prayer, and giving.

Prayer, Fasting, and Giving

Jesus speaks to these three spiritual practices in Matthew 6:1-21.  They are highlighted on Ash Wednesday and have been the primary spiritual practices encouraged by the church as a means to focus and grow during this 40 Day season (minus Sundays).

Prayer

For Adults: St. Ignatian's Daily Examen.
With this practice, you are invited to review your day in prayer and reflect on how and where God acted.

For Teens:  Learn how to pray the Daily Examen, using the example of a DVR from Loyola Press.

For Kids/Families: Children's messages to go with each week's theme will be available by Weds. 2/24/2021.

Fasting

Click on the image above to take you to an explanation for each of the fasts listed.  Also access a devotional book or daily email during Lent.

This video offers images of Jesus' 40 day fast in the wilderness based upon Mt 4:1-11.  Matt Maher's song invites reflection on how we might wrestle with our own 40 days of wandering and temptation.

Giving

Picture
This image links to a 40 day calendar offering daily reflections on world hunger and ways you can help alleviate this need.
  • If you fast from a food or drink, save what you would have spent on that item and give to a need you are passionate about.
  • Wednesday Evening Offerings:  All the offerings we collect during our 7:00 p.m. Evening Prayer services will be distributed to local community needs.

Looking for ways to give of your time and talents?  The Sandpoint Community Resource Center is working to bridge the gap between needs and those who serve.  This link takes you to their Volunteer Page.
